mYak Tibetan Cloud

Tibetan Cloud is a Sport / Light DK weight yarn made from 100% ethically sourced, flock-traceable Tibetan sheep wool. It comes exclusively from an ancient breed of Tibetan sheep that roam freely on the meadows of the Tibetan Plateau at an altitude of over 4000m. This unique product has characteristics closer to fine fibres such as cashmere and baby yak than to wool. It is a pleasure to knit as it is to wear. As an added bonus, it has beautiful stitch definition. Out of deep respect for animal welfare, nomads shear the sheep by hand in the traditional way that has been used for centuries. The wool is harvested following the natural rhythms of life of the animals and the people who raise them. Tibetan sheep are a very hardy breed that have adapted to quite harsh environmental conditions. They can also be found in semi-desert areas and we have chosen one of these poorer areas to source this collection to bring a better income to these communities. As with our Baby Yak and Tibetan Cashmere, our goal is to give this age-old nomadic way of life a chance to thrive and prosper in uncertain modern times. We seek to promote what nomads have been producing since time immemorial by adding value by spinning and dyeing the fiber in Biella, at the foot of the Italian Alps, the cradle of Italy's oldest and most prestigious textile excellence.
