Arbor is a very different yarn from the well-known Loft and Shelter mainly due to its workmanship: it is a combed yarn (worsted spun) unlike Loft and Shelter which are carded yarns (wollen spun).

It is born from the collaboration of Brooklyn Tweed with the historic Jagger Brothers spinning mill and the certified organic Saco River Dyehouse whose work has the least possible impact on the planet.

Arbor is made from 100% Targhee wool from sheep living in Montana and South Dakota. This type of composition makes the yarn extremely soft with the feel of merino but with a longer fiber length, typical of this breed of sheep.

The length of the fibers makes the yarn very resistant. The fibers are combed and then spun and twisted into three strands (3-ply) . This type of processing makes the yarn heavier and more compact than the other two Brooklyn Tweed yarns in which the lightness is due to the air trapped between one fiber and another.

Garments made with Arbor will therefore be overall heavier and more drapeable than those made with Loft and Shelter.
